The organic mind
Acrylic on canvas
56 x 76 cm
This painting illustrates the human brain as a plant-like organ. This seems more accurate, since research found that thinking is a process involving the entire body, rather than originating in the brain as previously thought. The widespread perception of the self as an isolated being, with organs dissociated from nature, is no longer helpful. This is a critical time for humankind to evolve beyond materialism and become realigned with the natural order. By interacting with technology positively, there is the potential for humans to shift into a more symbiotic relationship with our environment, in a spirit of collaboration rather than domination. A by-product of this shift would translate in increased congruence, as well as a newly found sense of belonging and psychological well-being.

The cosmic tree
Acrylic on canvas
56 x 67.2cm
The wind is blowing through the branches as they reach upwards. As drops of rain fall, delicate roots extract nourishment from the cosmic ocean, a phenomenon illustrated by concentric rings of energy surrounding the tips of the roots. It is alive, a being interacting with all elements: air, earth, fire, and water.
This painting is a homage to the tree, a dignified symbol of wisdom. Recent research emphases the intelligence of plants. Static and silent yet with a central role for life to on Earth to manifest, 'the cosmic tree' is depicted with what resembles a human brain. Trees take on many forms, yet consistently grows tall towards the light until gaining an imposing presence, for centenaries bearing witness to the passing of time.

Forest of vision
Mixed Media (Acrylics and oils) on canvas
W55 x H 65 cm
In this exploration of the visual system, the parallelisms between the botanical characteristics found in nature were drawn with the parts of the brain which, together with the eyes, make sense of the visual world. A forest of cones and rods, photoreceptors along the retina that transmute light into colour.

Horizons
Horizons
Acrylic on canvas
62 x 62 cm
A geometric conceptualisation of the Earth in relation to the circumventing planets, its sunsets and horizons, depicted through challenging angles and perspectives. The intensity and complexity of our world is portrayed in dramatic shading and contrasts. A reference to time and its subjective perception appears in the shape of a sand timer. Reflections of light on black water, the purple haze of space and a turquoise atmosphere. A geometric portrait of Earth.

The climb of life
Oil on canvas
76 x 62 cm
White wood frame
As a botanical manifestation of life gives way to another, ascending purposefully towards the light, each variety displays its uniqueness. An image evocative of childhood memories, summers imbued with fragrant honeysuckles climbing old walls crumbling with the weight of time. This painting is a celebration of the breath-taking botanical diversity on Earth. All are related, from European foxgloves to Asian orchids, through the extra-terrestrial looking passion flower. An attempt to encapsulate the endless creativity of life in its random, purposeless dance.
