Grounded directly in my academic training in psychology, this series makes visible the invisible architecture of human perception. Although the works are not illustrations of neuroscience, they delve into a universe of cones and rods. However, these paintings are far from anatomical depictions. They are enactments of the process by which the brain constructs what is called seeing. Geometric form is one of the mind's primary organising tools, and these paintings externalise that logic in a form that can be lived with. Collectors consistently report that the works are of high aesthetic quality and reward sustained looking, which is precisely the point: the visual system recognises something it intimately knows.
